If you’ve opened TikTok, Threads, or your email inbox lately, you’ve probably seen some version of this panic headline:
“SEO is dead. AI search is taking over.”
And as a wedding professional, that can feel…unsettling. You’ve finally wrapped your head around Google search, and now you’re being told ChatGPT search, AI summaries, and new search tools are changing everything again.
So let’s answer the real question honestly:
Short answer: no. They will work in tandem, accomplishing different things.
Longer answer: AI is changing how people use search, but it still depends on websites like yours to know what to say. And how do they get that information? Through traditional SEO elements like keyword optimization, context, and website structure.
Semrush research shows that visitors who find a brand in an AI answer are 4.4 times more valuable than those from traditional search.
Which means if you show up in a list of AI-recommended vendors, those couples are more likely to reach out than the couples who found you through Google.
To understand how AI search and traditional SEO work together, we first need to understand what makes them different.
Traditional SEO is about helping your website show up in search results when someone types something into Google.
Ex: You use the keyword “Chicago catering company” in the heading on your homepage. When couples search for “Chicago catering company,” your website is more likely to show up because you’ve optimized for that phrase.
AI search tools (like ChatGPT search, Google’s AI Overviews, or voice assistants) work differently. Instead of showing a list of links, they try to:
So while Google search shows pages, AI search shows answers. Most sources cited in AI responses don’t even rank in Google’s top 20.

So what does this mean for that SEO strategy you spent so much time (or money) on?
Nothing has changed with traditional SEO. Your keyword strategy and optimization still matter and are still working. There’s just now an additional way for couples to find you through search.
People still search Google for “wedding cakes Memphis,” But they ask AI, “What highly rated bakeries in Memphis create wedding cakes with a budget of $850 for 75 people?” Your content needs to match these natural language patterns.
AI optimization is the process of making your website accessible and understandable to AI-powered search tools. Like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overview, and Bing Copilot.
AI optimization means making your website easy for AI tools to understand, trust, and quote.
It’s not about coding or complicated tech.
If a couple asks ChatGPT:
“How much does a wedding photographer cost?” AI will look for websites that answer that clearly.

The wedding pros who win in AI search are the ones who:
That’s it! The more clearly you answer FAQs in plain language, the more likely you are to show up in AI search.
This is the part most people overthink, so let’s keep it simple.
Like—ACTUALLY ask you. Not the questions you think they should ask.
Think about and look through:
Examples:
These are exactly the same questions people now ask ChatGPT.
AI tools look at your headings first to understand what your page is about.
Instead of vague headings like:
Use:
These phrases directly match AI search queries.
This doesn’t mean every single heading on your website needs to answer a question. But wherever you can be direct in your language, you should use this method.
Here’s an example from a wedding planner in LA. She uses clear headings and poses questions in similar language to couples.

Under each heading, give a short, direct answer before you elaborate.
Example for a florist:
“How does pricing for wedding flowers work?
Wedding flower pricing is based on the number of arrangements, flower types, installation time, and delivery. Most couples invest between X and Y, depending on their needs.”
Then expand with details.
This makes your site perfect for AI search optimization, because AI can easily pull that first sentence as the answer. The goal is to make yourself easily quotable.
FAQ sections are one of the easiest ways to optimize your website for AI search.
Good FAQ examples for wedding pros:
Each of these is something someone might ask ChatGPT search instead of Google. Don’t be afraid to pose questions in relaxed language!

| Extra Tip: If you have multiple offers that are very different from one another (like day-of coordination vs. full service planning or buffet dinner vs. traditional served dinner), create a separate services page for each offer. Then, you can clearly separate each and you can add an FAQ section specific to that service. |
Blogging has always been important for SEO, and now that AI search is becoming more popular, it’s even more important.
Instead of broad topics like:
“Wedding Planning Tips”
Write:
These focused, clearly formatted posts perform better in AI vs Google Search because they match exactly how people ask questions.
Here’s an example from my own blog, where I answer “what should wedding photographers blog about?”

Again, no. But SEO is evolving.
The focus is less on optimizing words or phrases and more on clarity, helpfulness, and ease of understanding.
If your website is confusing, vague, or trying to sound fancy instead of useful, both Google and AI will ignore it.
AI is nowhere near perfect, and it has been known to make up information if not prompted very specifically. So what does that mean for you?
As always, be prepared to address couples’ misconceptions. The goal is for everyone to understand that AI isn’t always right, but when you’re asking to learn something you have no previous knowledge of, it can be hard to determine what’s legit and what’s not.
No. AI uses SEO content as its source. If your website is optimized for search and written clearly, it can show up in both traditional search and AI-generated answers.
Google shows a list of links. ChatGPT and other AI tools summarize answers using content from websites. If your website answers questions clearly, it can be used as a source for those summaries.
No. You just need clear pages, clear headings, and clear answers. I promise it’s a lot simpler than you think.
If someone asked ChatGPT a question your ideal clients ask, your site should contain a direct, obvious answer. If it doesn’t, that’s the gap.
The process is the same for every wedding vendor. The questions are different, but the structure—clear headings and clear answers—is universal.
Most wedding websites aren’t “bad”—they’re just unclear.
And in AI search, unclear means invisible.
